Box Office Battle: ‘Kung Fu Panda 4” stays atop with another $30M

“Box Office Battle” is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.

Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” won this weekend at the North American box office with $30M in its sophomore outing as it crossed the $100M mark to finish Sunday with a 10-day domestic cume of about $108M. Overseas, the Jack Black-voiced movie earned another $39.6M for a total of $176.4M globally. The movie directed by Mike Mitchell, who also commanded “Trolls” and “Shrek Forever After,” received an A- CinemaScore from audiences.

BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Warner Bros. (WBD) and Legendary’s “Dune: Part Two” placed number two with another $29.1M in its third weekend. Behind it was Lionsgate’s (LGF.B) “Arthur the King,” which opened to $7.5M from 3,003 locations. Another Lionsgate title, “Imaginary,” placed number four with $5.6M for a 10-day tally of $18.1M. Rounding out the top five, Angel Studios’ “Cabrini” grossed an estimated $2.8M for a domestic cume of $12M.
